There were almost 50 passengers on the bus at the time, and while it is unclear how many were injured in the Los Paisanos charter bus accident, thankfully, there were no fatalities. Multiple people were taken to local hospitals for treatment.
Passengers on the bus at the time describe the horrifying scene they experienced while trying to find injured loved ones in the wreckage, surrounded by other passengers “screaming and yelling” for help.
Maria Rodriguez, a Denver resident whose parents were on the bus at the time of the rollover, reports that both of her parents are injured and are in pain, with her mother having “4 or 5 ribs broken”. At the time of this writing, Rodriguez has also said that she has been unable to get a representative from the bus company on the phone, in order to get answers.
The investigation is ongoing, but FOX31 reports that the Texas company, while receiving an overall “satisfactory” rating, has still received multiple citations for unsafe driving, including multiple speeding violations, and citations for drivers who have spent too much time behind the wheel at one time.
Also, in 2005, Los Paisanos was involved in a van accident that resulted in the death of two people and the injury of several more.
The Colorado State Patrol reports that they believe a high rate of speed to be a possible factor in this accident, and the 53-year-old driver at the wheel at the time of the accident, Alberto Torres, has since been charged by police for careless driving resulting in bodily injury.

Charter bus and trucking companies have a responsibility to ensure their drivers follow the laws and rules of the road that protect us all. That means ensuring that their drivers are only behind the wheel for the recommended safe number of hours, and that they drive at speeds appropriate for weather conditions. When they fail to do that, innocent victims can face serious injury, and serious consequences.
