A single vehicle crash west of La Junta last Thursday, resulted in the vehicle’s driver facing ‘careless driving causing death’ charges.
According to the Colorado State Patrol, around 6 a.m. on June 18th, 26-year-old Alamosa resident Mezhgan Zeighami, was driving a Honda Fit west on Highway 10, when it appears that she lost control of the vehicle, went off the road and rolled before coming to a stop.
The female passenger in the car, 22-year-old Monte Vista resident, Mya Redmon, was ejected from the vehicle and unfortunately did not survive the injuries she sustained. She was not wearing a seatbelt.
Two children who were in the backseat at the time of the accident thankfully only suffered minor injuries.
Zeighami suffered some non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital. Police have said that they do not believe that intoxication or speed played a factor in this accident.
