A 1990 Toyota sedan and a 2002 Mitsubishi coupe were involved in the Denver auto accident, which occurred shortly before 2:00 in the morning. The Mitsubishi driver suffered mild injuries, however a passenger in that car was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Police believe that the crash was caused by the 20-year-old driver of the Toyota, who they suspect was driving under the influence. He was taken into custody after the crash. The actual cause is being investigated.

According to the Century Council, 127 Coloradans were killed in drunk driving accidents in 2010. Of those 127 Coloradans, 18 of them were killed in crashes involving a drunk driver under the age of 21. Some people debate the validity of drunk driving statistics, arguing that someone with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.08% isn’t “really” drunk. One statistic put forth by the Century Council is that more then three quarters of drunk driving fatalities involved a driver with a BAC of 0.15%. This is just about double the legal limit. The good news here is that the number of drunk driving fatalities has trended significantly downward since the year 2000.
