Two drivers were injured in an accident in Colorado Springs on South Academy Boulevard on the evening of Tuesday, January 7th.
The crash, which involved two automobiles, was called in around 5:20 p.m. and happened at the corner of S. Academy Blvd. and Academy Park Loop.
According to the police, the accident happened when a black Saab traveling north on S. Academy was struck by a red Acura that was driving south on the same road. Police believe that the Acura was trying to turn left onto Academy Park Loop when it hit the Saab, causing extensive damage to both of the vehicles. The cars were unoccupied except for the drivers, both of whom had to be extricated from their cars.
Both drivers also had to be taken to the hospital for treatment of serious injuries, and police believe that speed and intoxication may have been a cause of the accident.
Academy was closed for multiple hours until 11 p.m. as crews cleared the scene. Police are continuing to investigate this incident.
