A terrible accident in Cheyenne County on Friday afternoon tragically resulted in eight fatalities.
According to the Colorado State Patrol, the crash occurred on Highway 40 at 4:30 in the afternoon of June 26th, when a Ford F-150 attempted to pass a semi-truck in the oncoming lane of traffic, and crashed into a Chevrolet Silverado. The Ford, which was towing a boat at the time of the accident, burst into flames after the collision.
There were four people in each vehicle, six of whom died at the scene of the crash. Two of the passengers in the Silverado were taken to the hospital, but sadly one passed away en route, and the other passed away at the hospital on Sunday. The driver of the semi was uninjured.
Highway 40 was shut down most of Friday evening so crews could clear the scene, and so CSP could investigate.
