A fatal two-vehicle crash in Cheyenne County last Sunday afternoon, resulted in one fatality and serious injuries for another person involved.
According to the Colorado State Patrol, the crash occurred around 2:30 p.m., east of Kit Carson on Colorado State Highway 40.
Apparently, a westbound Honda SUV crossed into the oncoming lane of traffic, and collided with the trailer of an eastbound semi.
The Honda then rolled over a number of times, ejecting both of the passengers inside in the process. Police report that neither passenger was wearing a seatbelt.
Tragically, the 27-year-old male driver of the Honda passed away at the scene of the crash, and the other passenger, a 26-year-old female, was taken to the hospital for treatment of serious, life threatening injuries. Thankfully, the driver of the semi-truck was uninjured in the collision.
Traffic in the area was restricted for a period of time after the crash, while emergency crews processed the scene. The police are continuing to investigate this terrible incident.
