A head-on collision near Walsenburg resulted in one fatality, according to the Colorado State Patrol.
According to the police, the collision occurred around 5:30 p.m. on the evening of December 31st, roughly half a mile outside of Walsenburg on Highway 160.
Apparently. A Ford F-150 pickup truck headed west on 160 crossed the center line and entered the oncoming lanes of traffic, where it crashed head-on into a semi-truck.
The driver of the F-150 was apparently thrown from the vehicle and passed away at the scene of the crash. The driver of the semi-truck was seriously injured, and was taken to the hospital for treatment.
Police suspect that the driver of the pickup truck was speeding and possibly trying to pass another vehicle in their lane, when the crash occurred. They are continuing to investigate this incident, but do not believe that intoxication played a role in this tragedy at this time.
