The victim of a fatal auto-pedestrian accident that occurred on Thanksgiving in Pueblo, has been identified by the police as 61-year-old James Montez. The accident occurred on the evening of the 28th at the intersection of Ivywood Lane and Pueblo Boulevard, and shut down traffic for both directions of Pueblo Boulevard for roughly three hours.
At this point, the driver is not considered to be at-fault for the accident, but the investigation is ongoing, and if the driver is found to have been speeding at the time of the accident, they could be charged by the police.
Pedestrian Accidents Are Common
According to the NHTSA, in the United States in 2017, there were almost 6,000 pedestrian fatalities due to accidents with automobiles. That’s roughly 115 people a week, or more than 16 pedestrians a day, that die in traffic crashes, an average of one every 88 minutes.
A fatal accident has devastating results for a victim’s family. It is a terribly stressful and traumatic time, when family members not only have to contend with their overwhelming sense of grief, but also with all of the logistical and legal repercussions of a premature death. It’s important to contact an experienced attorney as soon as you are able to. A good attorney will be able to tell you what your options are, as well as investigate the scene of the accident and negotiate with the insurance company on your behalf.
