Fatal Head-on collision on Highway 72 Tuesday morning

Around 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Colorado State Patrol responded to a crash that happened between Highway 72 and Leyden Road.

The deadly head-on crash involving a semi-truck and a Volvo caused Highway 93 to close in both directions until 2:30 p.m.

The Volvo was driving south on Highway 93, crossed the centerline and hit the semi-truck that was driving northbound.

The driver of the Volvo, a 19-year-old, died in the crash. The semi-truck caught on fire, but according to authorities, no injuries were reported.

This is an ongoing investigation, the cause remains unknown.
