A small child drowned in the pool at a mobile home community, according to 9 News. At the time of the accident, which occurred in the middle of the afternoon, there were a number of people in the area, including the child’s family members. The boy was pulled out of the water, and CPRT was attempted, but it was tool ate. The boy had been playing in the children’s pool, but managed to get into the regular pool, apparently without anyone seeing him. An investigation is underway into how he ended up in the adult pool, and the exact cause of death. An uncle of the boy has said that he would like to remind parents and caretakers of small children that sometimes it only takes a moment for a child to drown.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), about 3,500 people accidentally drown each year in non-boating accidents. An additional 350 or so drown in boating accidents. The CDC further reports that about 20% of those accidental deaths involve children under the age of 15. For every child who drowns, five more are treated in the emergency room for non-fatal injuries resulting from being submerged in water. Among children aged between 1 and 4 who die from accidental injuries, about a third drown. A child can drown very quickly, and unlike on television shows, drowning children often do not splash around and are unable to shout or scream.
